Stage 1 Dungowan Pipeline Project

The Stage 1 Dungowan Pipeline Project will increase town water supply for Tamworth and water reliability for agriculture in the Peel Valley.

Pipes for the new Dungowan Dam at Calala in NSW.
Important announcement

Stage 1 of the pipeline connecting the Calala Water Treatment Plant in Tamworth to the Dungowan Showgrounds is now complete, helping to save up to 2.2 megalitres of water per day.

Project progress

The 20km-long Stage 1 Dungowan Pipeline – from Calala Water Treatment Plant to Dungowan Village – started at the rear of the Tamworth Regional Council Water Treatment Facility on Gordon Street in February 2022, before moving along Campbell Road and into Harrier Parade.

Work then began on private properties at the Dungowan end of the pipeline. Ongoing discussions and planning with landowners along the route ensured the final pipeline was laid in mid-2023.

Benefits

  • A new 20km pipeline from Calala Water Treatment Plant to Dungowan Village to replace the existing 70-year-old infrastructure
  • Maximise local job opportunities, inject millions of dollars into the local economy and unlock new investment opportunities for the region.
