We thank all stakeholders for their time and insights which they have shared with us as we worked towards delivering the best outcomes for the Lachlan Valley.

While Wyangala Dam is not viable, we recognise the challenges of water security, reliability and flood mitigation for Lachlan communities do not go away.

It is why the region needs a multi-faceted approach to protect against uncertainties and balance the competing needs of our environment, towns, and farmers.

This is why we are asking stakeholders to continue to work with us as we investigate the best infrastructure and non-infrastructure options as part of the draft Lachlan Regional Water Strategy.

The strategy provides a clear roadmap of how the government will tackle water security in the region over the next 20 years.

Be assured that whatever decisions are made, they will be based on evidence, including state-of-the-art climate science, so the valley is in a stronger position to manage water in a changing climate.

The community will have another opportunity to provide feedback on the draft Lachlan Regional Water Strategy before the end of September.

The consultation sessions will also provide a wrap-up of the Wyangala Dam project and FBC including the outcomes and key challenges.

Water Treatment plant

Meanwhile, work on a new Wyangala Water Treatment Plant, which began in February last year, will be completed in late 2023. It will deliver up to 800,000 litres of clean drinking water every day to village residents and the local holiday park.
